KATERINA BARSUKOVA

Biography

A graduate of the Roerich School of Fine Arts and the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, Katerina Barsukova is the winner of the international sand drawing competition The Touch in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, she was  awarded the Grand-Prix for the work Bach on the sand  with violinist Dmitri Makhtin.

For Katerina, the sand drawing is a small theater whose stage is a light table where ephemeral stories unfold. A handful of sand comes into life in a few graceful gestures from the artist.  

​

Katerina Barsukova is committed to promoting the union of sand animation and classical music that she loves so much. Katerina's works are distinguished by the ingenuity of her drawings in the lyrical symbolism style, but also by surprising transformations and great musicality.

 

In her repertoire  :  Children's Corner  by Debussy and  Dolly Suite  by Fauré, Pictures at an exhibition  by Mussorgsky,  Pierre and the Wolf  by Prokofiev,  The Little Mermaid  on the music by E. Grieg,  The Sleeping Beauty  and  Nutcracker  by Tchaikovsky,  Pulcinella  by Stravinsky,  Scheherazade  by Rimsky-Korsakov,  The Story of the Priest and His Workman Balda  by Shostakovich, but also  Romeo and Juliet  by Prokofiev,  Spartacus by Khatchaturian,  St Matthew Passion by Bach,  Metamorphoses  by R. Strauss,  The Transfigured Night  by Schoenberg,  Adagio for strings  by Barber.

She has performed at the Hermitage of St Petersburg, Mariinsky and Alexandrinsky theaters, the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Yerevan Philharmonic, the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, the Maison de Radio France, the Auditorium Rainier III in Monaco, the Liège Philharmonic Hall, the Warsaw National Opera, the Nice Congress Center and many other halls in Russia, Ukraine, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

Katerina collaborates with major orchestras for original visual concerts: Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Orchestre National de Cannes, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Orchestre National des Payes de la Loire, Athens State Orchestra, Bursa Regional Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, St Petersburg Olympic Symphony Orchestra, etc.

She also develops projects with chamber music:  Bach on the sand  with violinist Dmitri Makhtin,  Children's corner  with the piano duo Anne-Lise Gastaldi & David Saudubray with the narrator François-Xavier Szymczak, Les Tableaux d'une exposition  with Georgy Tchaidze, Sophie & Nicolas with piano duo Ludmila Berliskaya & Arthur Ancelle.

 

Katerina devotes a lot of time to the development of the aesthetic sense in children and awakens their creativity. She organises sand animation workshops for children and parents for the pleasure of both.
